Modalism Refuted.

The claim of the Modalist is that God only subsists in One Person, thus the distinction of Father, Son and Spirit collapse into one Person. However, there are many passages in Scripture that distinguish the Person of the Son from the Father insofar as their Personhood. Thus refuting Modalism.

The Father Being Distinct from the Son.

And yet if I do judge, My judgment is true; for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent Me. It is also written in your law that the testimony of two men (dyo anthropos) is true. I am One who bears witness of Myself, and the Father who sent Me bears witness of Me.” (John 8:16-18 NKJV)

Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, (John 17:1 NKJV)

For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me. (John 17:8 NKJV)

But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves. (John 17:13)

As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. (John 17:8 NKJV)

And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:17)

Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years. (Revelation 20:6 NKJV)

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:10 NKJV)

For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father. (Ephesians 2:18 NKJV)

I came forth from the Father and have come into the world. Again, I leave the world and go to the Father. His disciples said to Him, “See, now You are speaking plainly, and using no figure of speech! “Now we are sure that You know all things, and have no need that anyone should question You. By this we believe that You came forth from God.” (John 16:28-30 NKJV)


And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. (Luke 23:46 KJV)

But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. (John 5:17-18 KJV)
